Tonight we enjoyed our weekly family meal out. Thanks to a wonderful Christmas gift card from Auntie Rachel & Uncle Josh we ate at Red Robin. We had such a great time and I was reminded of why we started this weekly tradition. When we made the decision months ago to get our boys out and used to restaurants, people and different situations each week we knew it was going to be difficult. Not just the maneuvering of 2 babies, but trying to keep them entertained and keep them from being a distraction to the entire place (ok...they can be a distraction, but only because of their good looks :). However, it has actually turned out to really be the highlight of each week and something we all look forward to.
Tonight we sat down, ordered food for all 4 of us and had such a wonderful time. The boys FEASTED on steamed broccoli and carrots along with some of mommy's chicken and cantaloupe. As always, they enjoyed drinking the water and brought smiles to everyone around us (by the way, that is one of my favorite things about being a mom). We could not believe how much they ate and how well they did. We fed them either by hand or on forks and we had no bibs. I am proud to say we brought home 2 very stuffed, very clean baby boys!
I am amazed at how big they are getting and how quickly they are developing into little boys. It is mind boggling that we can take our 9 1/2 month olds into a restaurant, order food, feed them and enjoy our time out as a family. We even looked at the clock and realized that we had been there for over an hour and were quickly approaching bedtime...the time had gone so fast! I look forward to many family times in the future and we are taking notes each time we are out of new rules to implament or better yet, family values to uphold as the boys grow.
Tonights lesson...no technology at the dinner table! It is amazing how many families we see where there is little to no interaction between each other. Tonight we saw a family with 2 boys that spent the majority of their time playing vidoe games. Other than deciding on what to order, there were no words spoken between the parents and the kids, or between the kids to each other. Seth and I both found this pretty sad.
